Grants are for Federally Qualified Health Centers and other public health clinics integrating oral health into a primary health care setting and aim to assist Illinois health care providers who offer a safety net for children in need.

The Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation also awarded $1 million through a previous emergency grant program to 20 Federally Qualified Health Centers throughout the state to improve the oral and overall health of Illinois residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. These organizations used the funding to expand health services, including COVID-19 screenings and testing, and primary health care for patients, to purchase protective equipment, hire additional dental staff, and more. In addition, the Foundation donated $1 million to the Illinois State Dental Society Foundation to expand access to oral health care in Illinois with funds going toward equipment and supplies for Mission of Mercy events.
